Awaken'19

About Awaken ’19

EvolveED would like to invite you all Teachers, Counsellors and Psychology Students to attend a workshop on Mindfulness practices to be employed in a classroom setting.

The popularity, practice and research on Mindfulness has grown significantly in the last 15 years or so. New approaches to Mindfulness practices and research have brought substantial benefits to education, especially in the social - emotional & behavioural space. It is increasingly being recognised as an essential educational tool, invaluable to all stakeholders. We are an attention illiterate society living in an attention deficit economy. Thanks to computers, smartphones, television, and other technology, our senses are overly engaged. In the process of this overly engaged life & busy-ness we forget that the quality of attention is the foundation for not only effective learning & assimilation but also to experience a sense of well – being, purpose and meaning.

Cultivating Mental Discipline is a key element of classroom management.

How can teachers adopt these practices in a classroom set up? How can they restore attention to help student find focus? The workshop will focus on bringing simple techniques for teachers to use it in their own lives and help students move from a distracted/ scattered/wandering mode to a receptive/calmer mode. They receive hands on - in class instructions that helps offer students with an “Focus tool kit”.

The day includes talks, discussions in groups, Q and A with experts and two interactive workshops.

We look forward to sharing this extra ordinary experience with you and await your response.

Fathima Khader

Founder EvolveED, Mindfulness Educator, Self - Compassion Practitioner & Parent Consultant

Topic: Skillful attention in classrooms / Paying attention to attention

What is attention? What interferes with our attention? Is it similar to focus or concentration? How to tame a wandering mind? The key point for teachers, principals and parents is to realise, that maintaining attention is a skill. It requires training and has to be practiced - every day. The way we use our attention, the path our attention takes us down to, the choices it makes - hugely affects our experience. In a way, it creates our experiences.

About the Facilitator:

Fathima brings with her close to 15 years of experience in the education sector working extensively with children, teachers and parents in areas of life skills training, personal development and child behaviour management. Her passions lie in conducting workshops on Personal safety, Body awareness, Human Sexuality, CSA awareness and has extensively worked with adolescents on responsible behaviours. A teacher trainer and a certified parent coach who now works with families to create a happy fulfilling environment at home and in a classroom. Believes that relationships are connected by soul and Interpersonal challenges are dealt with both the mind & the heart. She has also conducted training programs outside India and trained teachers and parents in the Middle East. She launched Mindfulness based “Life Skills” Program in 2016 that aims to create safe - compassionate spaces for children to learn, connect and thrive. The program is designed to instil the 3 R’s (Build connected relationship, Reflections & Resilience) and 1 C (Compassion based social skills) in education.

Summary

This workshop focuses on simple tools and evidence-based techniques that help educators use play - full activities in classrooms. Join me to understand the ‘psychology of attention’.

Dilip P Patel & K N Malathi

Certified Zentangle Trainers, Corporate Trainers

Topic: Zentangle® way to mindfulness

The education system very badly needs an overhaul to bring back creativity, attention, mindfulness. The need of the hour is to drastically improve the attention span of the children and provide very effective tools to the teaching members to enhance their own patience, presence of mind and ability to help deserving children with compassion and understanding. Meditation, they say, is an effective tool to achieve the above objectives. However, practicing meditation offers too many hurdles, and frustrates many a meditator in attaining a real meditative state of mind.

About the Facilitator:

Dilip and Malathi are one of the rare couples who qualified to become Certified Zentangle® Teachers in the Zentangle® world. They work together to teach and spread this fun, easy to learn and yet, life-impacting art form which is taking the world by a storm. Zentangle has become one of their life missions. Prior to retirement (from work, not from Life), Dilip ran an industry for over 25 years, and Malathi was an Additional General Manager at Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, weaponing the military helicopters. Both are engineers by education. Both also enjoy offering their services as senior trainers/learning facilitators/course directors at Initiatives of Change, an international organisation engaged in helping people change (in their behaviour and attitudes) for better through introspective workshops. Thus, over the past 20 years they have touched the lives of more than 25000 people at all levels belonging to the diverse fields like Governance, Corporate and Education. Summary:

The mini workshop will attempt to make the participants experience glimpses of mindfulness/meditative state of mind through the fun filled process of creating unique, abstract ‘Zentangle art’ pieces, while making them understand the mechanism of the method. Proof of the pudding, they say, is in eating. The participants will have this exciting experience and would come out of the workshop hungry for more!

About Jellyfish Watersports
Over the past 6 years, Jellyfish Watersports has promoted the use of our beautiful rivers and waterways for recreation, water sports, and to build Eco-awareness. But our greatest joy comes from introducing young students to the thrills of water sports in a safe and fun environment.

When kayaking, children are pushed out of their comfort zones to learn a new skill. They quickly overcome their apprehensions about being on the water and are eager to get to the next level.

While Kayaking or Stand up Paddling is an individual activity, it is always done as part of a group. So it’s a fun way for students to learn the value of perseverance, as well as an opportunity to bond with their classmates and teachers.

In addition to enjoying a new sport, kayaking brings them closer to the outdoors and rivers. It will foster their curiosity and interest in the natural world and hopefully make them more aware of their impact on the environment.

We have hosted a number of schools at Jellyfish Watersports and the students are always eager to come back for more. We also have camping facilities available.
